Meet Riddick, one of our incredible Peer Mentors here at Maudcare, who owns two beautiful Registered therapy dogs, Sway & Kovu – that have become an essential part of our programs. 
These dogs bring comfort, companionship, and connection, but their impact goes far beyond that. Many of our participants face social barriers that can make it difficult to communicate or engage with others. When Riddick’s therapy dogs are around, something amazing happens, participants begin to relax, open up, and connect in ways that words alone can’t describe.
We’ve seen firsthand how animal-assisted support can transform behaviour and confidence. Participants who once struggled with communication or emotional regulation become calmer and more engaged. Through spending time with the dogs, they also learn important life skills, such as empathy, responsibility and care – by helping with feeding, walking, and even mentoring others in how to look after them.
This shared experience builds relationships and trust between participants and Peer mentors, creating a stronger sense of belonging and community. The dogs don’t just bring joy, they act as a bridge, helping participants find their voice and express themselves more easily with others.
