My name is Stephanie and I am one of the Peer Mentors here at Maudcare. I have the privilege of working with John every Friday, where he volunteers at the OP Shop in Drysdale. This is the highlight of his week and he can’t wait to get to work and loves to do overtime. He takes his responsibilities very seriously and is a great asset to the team of volunteers. His cheerful personality welcoming customers into the store is infectious and the customers response is always positive. He has wonderful customer service skills and enjoys serving customers and using the cash register the most. But feels comfortable and confident doing any given task.
The other volunteers look forward to John coming to work as much as he does. They have nothing but praise and gratitude for his hard work and enthusiasm. He has become an integral part of the team. He often jokes with ladies and they enjoy his company.
Since John started working a few months ago, I have witnessed firsthand lots of positive changes in his personality. He tells me every Friday, what a great day he has had. He hates being at home and bored. Having a purpose and being part of a team seems to make him happier in himself. Being respected, accepted, and praised is wonderful for his self-worth. It has been wonderful to see him thrive. I absolutely love working with John and the ladies at the OP Shop.
